VEX Gateway is played on a 12’x12’ square field. Two alliances, a red team and a blue team, compete in matches consisting of a twenty-second autonomous period which is then followed by two minutes of driver-controlled play. The point of the game is to score the most amount of points possible in both of the time periods. Points can be scored by placing barrels or balls into the scoring objects. The first object in the goal scores two points, and each consecutive object scores 1. The color of the object determines which team gets the points. Teams have to strategize the most efficient and effective way of scoring the points, mainly to outscore the opponents.
